I am sure you have a favorite place that you like to shop. Walmart, Target, Costco the list could go on and on. I am sure there are other favorites that I did not name. I am not a shopper, but if shopping is your thing, I say, “you do you.” I write all that to say that there are certain places you like to go for your needs or just for fun. I believe the same thing should be said about our prayer life.
“Once Jesus was in a certain place, praying. As he finished, one of his disciples came to him and said, “Lord, teach us to pray, just as John taught his disciples.” Jesus said, “This is how you should pray: “Father, may your name be kept holy. May your Kingdom come soon. Give us each day the food we need, and forgive us our sins, as we forgive those who sin against us. And don’t let us yield to temptation. ” (Luke 11:1-4; NLT)
Prayer is an integral part of our walk with the Lord. A lot of times, we struggle with prayer until we learn how to pray.
In this passage, we learn that Jesus was in a certain place when He prayed. Jesus prayed a lot in the gospels, but here in Luke, He had a particular place that He prayed. This teaches us that we should have a place set aside to pray. It could be a closet or a corner in your room, but it is a place where you meet the Lord in prayer.
In Daniel 6:10, we read about Daniel’s certain place. “But when Daniel learned that the law had been signed, he went home and knelt down as usual in his upstairs room, with its windows open toward Jerusalem. He prayed three times a day, just as he had always done, giving thanks to his God.” (NLT)
We see Daniel had a usual place to pray. It means that he had a consistent place and time that he met the Lord. Many of us struggle with our prayer life or spending time with the Lord each day. We understand that it is, but life gets in the way.
I am sure many of you have seen the movie “War Room.” It is a powerful movie about prayer, faith, hope, love, marriage. Most of all, it is a perfect depiction of having a “certain place” to meet the Lord. God wants us the spend time with Him. When we consciously select a place and a time to meet the Lord, we are actively committing to growing our faith.
I would love to hear about your particular place that you meet the Lord in prayer. Email me or write in the comments below your “certain place”
