Christmas 2021

Christmas 2021

December 22, 2021

This is the time of year we celebrate and reflect on the birth of Christ. We celebrate that He was born and everything that comes with the birth of a newborn baby. It means a new life, a new time, and new experiences to come.

We can only imagine what Mary and Joseph were thinking during this time. We do know that Mary stored them away in her heart.

“But Mary kept all these things in her heart and thought about them often.” Luke 2:19 NLT

There were no baby showers or parties for Jesus. He had angels shouting, praising, and proclaiming His arrival to the shepherds.

Then the shepherds told everyone about Jesus.

“After seeing him, the shepherds told everyone what had happened and what the angel had said to them about this child. All who heard the shepherds’ story were astonished,” Luke 2:17 NLT.

Simeon and Anna, two elderly people, were praising God that Jesus had come. (Luke 2:25-38)

Wise men traveling far to worship Him and brought gifts. (Matthew 2:1-12)

Not many people celebrated Jesus’ birth when he arrived. He did not come with fanfare, yet many more people celebrated Him today as followers of Christ.

As we reflect on Jesus’ birth, we can see its importance. Jesus is fully God and fully human. Jesus has always been God from the beginning of time. Which we see in John 1:1-3 NLT,

“In the beginning, the Word already existed.
The Word was with God,
and the Word was God.
He existed in the beginning with God.
God created everything through him,
and nothing was created except through him.”

Being born of a woman made Him human through the supernatural work of God.

“But when the right time came, God sent his Son, born of a woman, subject to the law.” Galatians 4:4 NLT

Salvation can only come through Christ, and the penalty of sin needed to be paid.

“What we do see is Jesus, who for a little while was given a position “a little lower than the angels”; and because he suffered death for us, he is now “crowned with glory and honor.” Yes, by God’s grace, Jesus tasted death for everyone.” Hebrews 2:9 NLT

Jesus’ birth marks the beginning of His life in a human body in the world that He created and a world that He would ultimately give His life.

So while we celebrate a baby being born, let’s also reflect on the reason why He came. To save us from our sins that we have a chance to live with Him forever.
