It starts at the beginning of time.
“In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth” Genesis 1:1 NLT.
God reveals Himself to us.
The Creator and all-powerful God of the universe. What does this mean for us as believers?
Because of God, we have the opportunity to know and love Him. He tells us that there is nothing He can’t do. He created a world out of nothing, which is a big deal!
The name El Elyon tells us that God is above all. He is God Most High. He is our maker. God cares for the birds of the sky and the flowers of the earth. While God cares for these small things, He cares about us because we are made in His image.
We can see an illustration of El Elyon in Genesis 14. Abram had recused his nephew Lot and had helped the kings of Sodom, Gomorrah, Admah, Zeboiim, and Bela.
“The king of Sodom said to Abram, “Give back my people who were captured. But you may keep for yourself all the goods you have recovered.” Abram replied to the king of Sodom, “I solemnly swear to the Lord, God Most High, Creator of heaven and earth, that I will not take so much as a single thread or sandal thong from what belongs to you. Otherwise you might say, ‘I am the one who made Abram rich.” Genesis 14:21-23 NLT
Abraham knew the source of his victory when he rescued his nephew Lot. It was God. God Most High.
Our faith should be grounded in knowing the God we serve. During a crisis, God sustains us with the power to press through.
“The power of daily life and for overcoming every crisis has been given to us by the One who spoke the world into being. Abram refused the gifts of the king of Sodom because he know he had no power to provide him with anything” (Hemphill, 2014)
As a believer, you have trusted God for eternity, but can you trust Him for the here and now?
There is a lot of talk about being self-made or being self-sufficient. As humans, we are God-made, and as believers, we are to be God-sufficient.
So when we become afraid or anxious, stop and meditate on the Words of our God Most High.
Let’s remember and take comfort in what the Psalmist says, “My help comes from the Lord, who made heaven and earth!” Psalm 121:2 NLT
Cry out to Him for all of your needs.
