Knowing God

Elizabeth: God is kind

December 8, 2021

God is magnificent in all of His ways. He moves and acts for us in many ways. While we will never fully understand the ways and acts of God, we have a pattern to lead us in our faith.

The pattern can be found in His Word. Throughout the Bible, we learn about God and His ways. We don’t always know the why, but we can see the results in the people of the Bible.

We can see similar patterns in our own lives and those around us.

When we read about Elizabeth and Zechariah, we see that God did amazing things in their lives.

Let’s take a closer look.
“When Herod was king of Judea, there was a Jewish priest named Zechariah. He was a member of the priestly order of Abijah, and his wife, Elizabeth, was also from the priestly line of Aaron. Zechariah and Elizabeth were righteous in God’s eyes, careful to obey all of the Lord’s commandments and regulations. They had no children because Elizabeth was unable to conceive, and they were both very old.” Luke 1:5-7 NLT

Here’s what comes next,
“While Zechariah was in the sanctuary, an angel of the Lord appeared to him, standing to the right of the incense altar. Zechariah was shaken and overwhelmed with fear when he saw him. But the angel said, “Don’t be afraid, Zechariah! God has heard your prayer. Your wife, Elizabeth, will give you a son, and you are to name him John.” Luke 1:11-13 NLT

God can do the impossible when we least expect it.

While God can do the impossible, we don’t expect the impossible in some instances in our lives. It may be a desire that we have long forgotten, but God has not. That is not to say that something you desired from your childhood will happen. This goes to show you that God’s impossible is a part of His plan.

God is full of surprises.

Zechariah and Elizbeth did not expect to have a child so late in life. Elizabeth might have put that desire out of her mind by this time in her life. Yet, God gives her a son in her old age. Let’s not forget that her son was special. Her son was the one foretold by the prophet Malachi.

To be the forerunner to Christ Jesus.
“Look, I am sending you the prophet Elijah before the great and dreadful day of the Lord arrives. His preaching will turn the hearts of fathers to their children, and the hearts of children to their fathers. Otherwise I will come and strike the land with a curse.” Malachi 4:5-6 NLT

“And he will turn many Israelites to the Lord their God. He will be a man with the spirit and power of Elijah. He will prepare the people for the coming of the Lord. He will turn the hearts of the fathers to their children, and he will cause those who are rebellious to accept the wisdom of the godly.” Luke 1:16-17 NLT

As we continue to move through life, trusting in God, we know the power He holds to work in our lives for us.

Even when we don’t necessarily like how our life has turned out, remember as long as we keep living and breathing, God’s plan for our life is still at work. We don’t know the impossible surprising that He has for us.

Keep living and trusting in Him. He never fails. Then we can echo a similar praise like Elizabeth. “How kind the Lord is!” she exclaimed.” Luke 1:25a NLT
