Living in Assurance

Forgiven

Self-esteem, self-worth are terms with which we are familiar—loving yourself.

In the context of valuing yourself for who God made you be, this is a needed message. Yet, we should also be self-aware that our worth is not in our own identity but in that we receive from Christ as our Savior.

We are still sinners.
The Old Testament and the New Testament reminds us of this fact.

“Not a single person on earth is always good and never sins.” Ecclesiastes 7:20 NLT

“As the Scriptures say, “No one is righteous— not even one. No one is truly wise; no one is seeking God. All have turned away; all have become useless. No one does good, not a single one.” Romans 3:10-12 NLT

Christ paid the ultimate sacrifice for our sins and saved us from eternal punishment.

“But our High Priest offered himself to God as a single sacrifice for sins, good for all time. Then he sat down in the place of honor at God’s right hand.” Hebrews 10:12 NLT

Now we should try our best to walk as forgiven children of God.

I John 1:5-10, reminds us that our walk should reflect the change in our life. Even though we are still sinful, God will forgive us if we confess our sins to Him.“This is the message we have heard from him and declare to you: God is light; in him there is no darkness at all. If we claim to have fellowship with him and yet walk in the darkness, we lie and do not live out the truth. But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus, his Son, purifies us from all sin.
If we claim to be without sin, we deceive ourselves and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness. If we claim we have not sinned, we make him out to be a liar and his word is not in us.”
NLT

Our sinful nature is another reminder that without Christ we can do nothing. We know that we will disobey God, yet we should be willing to humble ourselves before God and ask for forgiveness.

God is continuously showing us His grace and mercy.

“O Lord, you are so good, so ready to forgive, so full of unfailing love for all who ask for your help.” Psalms 86:5 NLT

Because of this, we should not let Satan guilt us into thinking God will stop loving us because we still sin.

This is not true.

God is a forgiving Father, always present to hear our plea of sorrow and forgive us when we cry out to Him.

So as you look at life in all of its twists and turns, know that we will still disobey God’s commands while we live on this earth. It’s a part of life, just like trials and testing.

And while this is our state, God has given us a way to maintain fellowship with Him. In every part of our lives, God has made provision.

Are you willing to receive what He has offered?

  1. Thank you for this reminder. I’m always amazed that God continually forgives us. Even the same sin over again. Satan tries to make us believe that God could not forgive us for “that” sin. Yet, he is infinitely merciful.

  2. Thank you for your reminder of God’s forgiveness. I am blow away by His Amazing Grace. Because of His grace, I desire to have a continual relationship with Him. Therefore, I need to keep a clear conscious and ask for His forgiveness not matter how many times I do wrong.
