I am always amazed at the awesomeness of God. In His greatness, He continues to show us how much He cares for us in our daily lives.
Take a look at this parable from Matthew,
“For the Kingdom of Heaven is like the landowner who went out early one morning to hire workers for his vineyard. He agreed to pay the normal daily wage and sent them out to work.”
“At nine o’clock in the morning, he was passing through the marketplace and saw some people standing around doing nothing. So he hired them, telling them he would pay them whatever was right at the end of the day. So they went to work in the vineyard. At noon and again at three o’clock, he did the same thing.”
“At five o’clock that afternoon, he was in town again and saw some more people standing around. He asked them, ‘Why haven’t you been working today?’
“They replied, ‘Because no one hired us.’
“The landowner told them, ‘Then go out and join the others in my vineyard.’
“That evening he told the foreman to call the workers in and pay them, beginning with the last workers first. When those hired at five o’clock were paid, each received a full day’s wage. When those hired first came to get their pay, they assumed they would receive more. But they, too, were paid a day’s wage. When they received their pay, they protested to the owner, ‘Those people worked only one hour, and yet you’ve paid them just as much as you paid us who worked all day in the scorching heat.’
“He answered one of them, ‘Friend, I haven’t been unfair! Didn’t you agree to work all day for the usual wage? 14 Take your money and go. I wanted to pay this last worker the same as you. Is it against the law for me to do what I want with my money? Should you be jealous because I am kind to others?’
“So those who are last now will be first then, and those who are first will be last.” (Matthew 20:1-16: NLT)
God is generous. If you think over your life, you should be able to see how generous God has been to you. Scripture provides us with a few reminders of our generous God.
God is generously sacrificial
“You know the generous grace of our Lord Jesus Christ. Though he was rich, yet for your sakes, he became poor, so that by his poverty he could make you rich” (2 Corinthians 8:9; NLT)
God is generous in His mercy
“For it is by believing in your heart that you are made right with God, and it is by openly declaring your faith that you are saved. As the Scriptures tell us, “Anyone who trusts in him will never be disgraced.” Jew and Gentile are the same in this respect. They have the same Lord, who gives generously to all who call on him. For “Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.” (Romans 10:10-13; NLT)
God is generous in His gifts
“If you need wisdom, ask our generous God, and he will give it to you. He will not rebuke you for asking.” (James 1:5 NLT)
God is generous in His provision
“And God will generously provide all you need. Then you will always have everything you need and plenty left over to share with others.” (2 Corinthians 9:8 NLT)
God is fair. We know that we live in a fallen world; life is not fair. Far from it, but we have the assurance that we serve a fair God.
God is fair with His law
“Reverence for the Lord is pure, lasting forever. The laws of the Lord are true; each one is fair.” (Psalms 19:9 NLT)
God is fair in His grace
“For God presented Jesus as the sacrifice for sin. People are made right with God when they believe that Jesus sacrificed his life, shedding his blood. This sacrifice shows that God was being fair when he held back and did not punish those who sinned in times past, for he was looking ahead and including them in what he would do in this present time. God did this to demonstrate his righteousness, for he himself is fair and just, and he makes sinners right in his sight when they believe in Jesus.” (Romans 3:25-26: NLT)
God is fair because He is God
“He is the Rock; his deeds are perfect. Everything he does is just and fair. He is a faithful God who does no wrong; how just and upright he is!” (Deuteronomy 32:4 NLT)
We have seen a glimpse of the character of God in His generosity and fairness. None of it we deserve, yet He still provides.
“Thank you, Lord, for being so generous and fair with us when we do not deserve it. Please help us to be grateful for all you have done and will do for us. In Jesus’ Name. Amen”
