Core Biblical Truths

God the Holy Spirit

September 7, 2022

As believers, we know or should that the Spirit of God lives within us. “Don’t you realize that all of you together are the temple of God and that the Spirit of God lives in you?” (1 Cor 3:16) NLT

“The Holy Spirit is the Third Person of the Trinity, eternally existing together with the Father and the Son in the one Godhead. He is fully God, as are the Father and the Son, possessing the same attributes of independence, immutability, omnipresence, omnipotence, omniscience, holiness, love, and more. The three share in the one divine essence. Thus, the Holy Spirit is fully God, coequal with the Father and the Son.” (Allison, 2018)

The Holy Spirit indwells in us when we accept His gift of salvation. We don’t become a god. It is God living inside us. He is with us wherever we go. This is one comfort we as believers should never forget.

“…the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit act as one agent in all the divine works of creation, redemption, and consummation …….yet some divine works are the particular responsibility of the Spirit without excluding the other two persons. These works are speaking, re-creating and perfecting and indwelling” (Allision, 2018)

As God, the Holy Spirit works in the believer’s life. God speaks to us through His Word. “Above all, you must realize that no prophecy in Scripture ever came from the prophet’s own understanding, or from human initiative. No, those prophets were moved by the Holy Spirit, and they spoke from God.” 2 Peter 1: 20-21 NLT

It is so important as we take time each day to read and study God’s Word; we ask the Holy Spirit to give us an understanding of the Bible. The Bible is God’s message for us. How can we know God but by His Word and the Holy Spirit giving us understanding?

The Spirit of God was there at the beginning of creation (Genesis 1:2). The Spirit has a role in the re-creation of the sinner. He perfects them so that they can conform to the image of Christ.

“As Christians believe in the gospel, Christ baptizes them with the Holy Spirit, they are incorporated in the Christ’s body, and they are filled with the Holy Spirit. Thus they are temples of the Holy Spirit, meaning that the Triune God dwells in believer through the Spirit” (Allison, 2018)

The Holy Spirit has a hand in a person’s salvation from the beginning. The Holy Spirit convicts us of our sins. (John 16:8-11). Because of the sacrifice of Jesus Christ, we are saved and are given a new life through the Holy Spirit (Titus 3:5-7). This new life that we have can’t be taken away. We have been sealed by the power of Christ’s blood and the Holy Spirit (Eph 4:30). Lastly, it is the Holy Spirit that moves us to sanctification. (2 Cor 3:17-18)

Throughout the life of a believer, we see God with us, from our salvation to our sanctification. The Holy Spirit is our guide on our journey in this life.

I am not sure why I would doubt God’s presence in my life. He has drawn me to Himself when I did not deserve it. Take comfort in what the Holy Spirit has done in your life. If you are still living on this earth, He has more work to do in you. Are you willing to follow His lead? Let’s say “yes” the next time He prompts you!
