How to Study the Bible

How to study the Bible

June 2, 2021

Studying the Bible looks different from just reading the Bible. Check out my post about reading through the Bible.

Studying the Bible takes work and time. In this post, I will be listing various ways you can study the Bible.

Let’s go through some ideas:
Inductive method
Character study
Book study
Chapter study
Verse study
Topical study
Word study
Bible study workbooks

All of these are great to dig deeper into the Word.

The inductive method has three steps involved in the process.
Observation: What does it say?
Interpretation: What does it mean?
Application: How should it change me?

Character studies are when you study a particular person in the Bible, such as Abraham, David, Ruth, or Esther.

A Book study is when you study a particular book of the Bible, such as Genesis, James, or Matthew.

A chapter or verse study is when you go a little deeper and focus on one particular part of scripture.

A topical study focuses on a topic such as prayer, fruits of the Spirit, parables of Jesus, or marriage,

A word study would focus on a particular word found in the Bible such as joy, peace, faith, or grace.

Lastly, are Bible study workbooks. A lot of times, these are utilized in a group setting. Which can be greatly beneficial, but you don’t always have to do them as a group. Often these workbooks go by weeks, and sometimes you may want to ponder and study the lesson a little longer than the prescribed time.

Which one of these methods have you used to study the Bible? I would love to hear about it! Comment below.
