Living by the Spirit: Peace

September 3, 2025

But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace…..Galatians 5:22

As believers, the first peace we are given is with God. In our sinful state, before surrendering our lives to Christ, we were at war against God’s truth. Until we are given the faith and sight to see the goodness and love of God through Christ’s sacrifice, we don’t have peace.

“since we have been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ.” Romans 5:1 ESV.

Once we accept and surrender our lives to Christ, we are given the Holy Spirit to guide us in our daily walk. As we grow and mature, the Holy Spirit produces fruit. When we experience the fruit of love and joy, both can lead us to peace.

Our trust in God helps us to have peace in the midst of our circumstances.

“You keep him in perfect peace whose mind is stayed on you, because he trusts in you. Trust in the Lord forever, for the Lord God is an everlasting rock. Isaiah 26:3-4 ESV

“do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.” Philippians 4:6-7 ESV

The peace we have comes from within us, from the Holy Spirit who indwells us. Sometimes, we won’t be able to understand it.

By trusting in God and His Word, the Holy Spirit can produce the peace we need to live in this fallen world.

Whenever I get anxious or fearful, I turn to the Bible, which I know will bring me comfort. I especially like to read Psalms. Every time I read them, I am reassured of God’s goodness, how He will never fail me, and how He is in control of every aspect of my life.

And as a believer, He is in control of your life, too!

“God cannot give us a happiness and peace apart from Himself, because it is not there. There is no such thing.” ~ C. S. Lewis
