Parables of Jesus

Never an inconvenience

August 19, 2020

God is never too busy to hear us.

Jesus taught his disciples about prayer. He taught them how to pray and how God handles our prayers.

In Luke 11:5-8 we read,
“Then, teaching them more about prayer, he used this story: “Suppose you went to a friend’s house at midnight, wanting to borrow three loaves of bread. You say to him, ‘A friend of mine has just arrived for a visit, and I have nothing for him to eat.’ And suppose he calls out from his bedroom, ‘Don’t bother me. The door is locked for the night, and my family and I are all in bed. I can’t help you.’ But I tell you this—though he won’t do it for friendship’s sake, if you keep knocking long enough, he will get up and give you whatever you need because of your shameless persistence.” (NLT)

Jesus wants us to be persistent in our prayers. Unlike the reluctant friend in the parable who does not want to help his friend at first, our requests to God never come at an inconvenient time.

In the verses that follow this parable, Jesus continues with,

And so I tell you, keep on asking, and you will receive what you ask for. Keep on seeking, and you will find. Keep on knocking, and the door will be opened to you. For everyone who asks, receives. Everyone who seeks finds. And to everyone who knocks, the door will be opened.”
(Luke 11:9-10 NLT)

In our prayers, we should keep asking until God answers.

Yes, no, or wait.

God always answers in one of the forms mentioned above. Now it may not always be the answer we “want” it is the answer that is “best” according to God’s will for our lives.

Prayer helps us to grow our faith in an almighty God.

In Isaiah 65:24, God is speaking, and this is what He says,

“I will answer them before they even call to me. While they are still talking about their needs, I will go ahead and answer their prayers!” (NLT)

An awesome and mighty God not only hears our prayers, He knows them before we ask!

How comforting is that! He knows!

Let this be our prayer,

“Lord, help me to trust you. You know the petitions of my heart. I pray that you will grant them in accordance to your will for my life. That I may bring glory to you. Thank you for listening and know my heart. In Jesus’ Name. Amen.”
