Outside your comfort zone

God called Moses out of the wilderness to lead the people of Israel. One after the other Moses gives excuses of why he could not do it. Until Moses tries one more excuse, “But Moses pleaded with the LORD, “O Lord, I’m not very good with words. I never have been, and I’m not now, even though you have spoken to me. I get tongue-tied, and my words get tangled. (Exodus 4:10; NLT).

Remember Moses was talking to the Lord Almighty! He is going back and forth in this conversation. I am a little shocked that Moses would have the guts to argue with the Lord. But is that not what we do too? When God is giving us a prompting to obey His leading for our lives do we not make excuses or have an ongoing conversation with the Lord as to why His will for our lives will not work out? I am amazed at how our faith can waver when we look at our shortcomings. This is something I am still learning. When God calls, He equips.

See what the Lord told Moses, “Then the LORD asked Moses, “Who makes a person’s mouth? Who decides whether people speak or do not speak, hear, or do not hear, see, or do not see? Is it not I, the LORD? Now go! I will be with you as you speak, and I will instruct you in what to say.” (Exodus 4:11; NLT).

God told Moses that he would give him the words needed to present the message to Pharaoh. Even in that reassurance, Moses still had a hard time believing. Moses unbelief reflects the human perspective of learning how to take God at His Word. This is something we have to learn as we experience God’s goodness in our lives. God will lead us and equips us for His purpose.

Just like Moses, God will equip you and me for the calling that He has. Our part is to step out in obedience. Even in our lacking God can provide us with people to surround us in that calling. If you remember, God told Moses to use Aaron as his spokesperson when Moses kept making excuses and asked if God could send someone else. As we see, Moses was at the beginning of his faith walk. We can see that when God calls us, He is more than capable to develop the skills needed to carry out His calling on our life. Are we willing to take a step of faith, believing God will give us all that we need to do His work?
