Radical faith

May 22, 2019

Abraham’s faith was tested when God told him to sacrifice his son Isaac. (Genesis 22:1-2). I wonder if Abraham panicked? I know I would have! God was asking him to kill his son as a sacrifice. The promised son that he had prayed for and waited for so many years. God calls us to surrender our lives to Him. We never know the outcome at that moment. Abraham did not know that God would provide a sheep for the sacrifice. What Abraham did know was that God would be faithful to his promise of his descendants being numerous as the stars in the sky and the sands of the sea. (Genesis 15:5) Abraham had faith that God would carry out His promise. So much so that he believed that God could raise Isaac from the died. “Abraham reasoned that if Isaac died, God was able to bring him back to life again….” (Hebrew 11:19; NLT)

In the moment of a test, we can draw from past promises of God. In His Word, God has given us comfort, grace, assurance, and joy for each test that we encounter. Abraham knew what God had promised for that situation.

In your need, what promises has God shown to you in His Word?

Are you actively believing the promises God has given to us as believers?

Are you willing to trust God even if it means sacrificing something that is close to your heart?

He wants us to trust Him when it is the opposite of our human nature.

Are you willing to surrender?
