There have been many struggles in my life that God has guided me through. Through it all, I remember God’s goodness. While he was fleeing from the anger of his brother Esau, Jacob made a stop in Bethel. God showed Jacob in a dream that He was with him. In the morning, Jacob set up a memorial to God marking the spot where God had relieved Himself. A place of worship. (Genesis 28:12-22) Years later, God told Jacob to travel through that same place (Bethel) on his way to meet his brother Esau. (Genesis 35:1-2). Jacob told his family to get ready to worship the Lord. This was Jacob’s testimony “We are now going to Bethel, where I will build an altar to the God who answered my prayers when I was in distress. He has been with me wherever I have gone.” (Genesis 35:3)
I am sure there are points in time where God has seen you through a difficult time, or you decided to change the way you live. It is a milestone that marks God’s goodness in your life. It could be the day you received Christ in your life, the day you rededicated your life to Christ, the day you committed to purity or the day God called you to your purpose in life. Whatever milestone it is, celebrate. When we reflect on God’s goodness in our lives, we know that without Him we can do nothing. It is through His grace we live each day.
“I will exalt you, my God and King, and praise your name forever and ever. I will praise you every day; yes, I will praise you forever. Great is the LORD! He is most worthy of praise! No one can measure his greatness. Let each generation tell its children of your mighty acts; let them proclaim your power. I will meditate on your majestic, glorious splendor and your wonderful miracles. Your awe-inspiring deeds will be on every tongue; I will proclaim your greatness. Everyone will share the story of your wonderful goodness; they will sing with joy about your righteousness.” (Psalms 145:1-7)
