The gospel is for everyone. God is giving many opportunities for people to know Him personally. It is our purpose as Christians to show people the love of Jesus and encourage them in their walk with God.
Yet, all of the work we put in should be left in the hands of the Lord to convict the hearts of people. We are to sow the seeds.
In Matthew 13:1-23, Jesus tells the parable of the sower.
Here is the first part,
“Listen! A farmer went out to plant some seeds. As he scattered them across his field, some seeds fell on a footpath, and the birds came and ate them. Other seeds fell on shallow soil with underlying rock. The seeds sprouted quickly because the soil was shallow. But the plants soon wilted under the hot sun, and since they didn’t have deep roots, they died. Other seeds fell among thorns that grew up and choked out the tender plants. Still, other seeds fell on fertile soil, and they produced a crop that was thirty, sixty, and even a hundred times as much as had been planted! Anyone with ears to hear should listen and understand.” (Matthew 13:3-9:NLT)
Here is the explanation by Jesus,
“Now listen to the explanation of the parable about the farmer planting seeds: The seed that fell on the footpath represents those who hear the message about the Kingdom and don’t understand it. Then the evil one comes and snatches away the seed that was planted in their hearts. The seed on the rocky soil represents those who hear the message and immediately receive it with joy. But since they don’t have deep roots, they don’t last long. They fall away as soon as they have problems or are persecuted for believing God’s Word. The seed that fell among the thorns represents those who hear God’s Word, but all too quickly the message is crowded out by the worries of this life and the lure of wealth, so no fruit is produced. The seed that fell on good soil represents those who truly hear and understand God’s Word and produce a harvest of thirty, sixty, or even a hundred times as much as had been planted!” (Matthew 13:18-23:NLT)
The sower?
God working through us to proclaim the good news of Jesus
The seeds?
God’s Word
The soil?
The different kinds of hearts.
This parable represents the world in which we live when it comes to sharing the gospel message and how it is received.
As part of the plan to reach others, the message may reach many, but only a few may be truly changed by it. This should not discourage us from sharing the Word of God. It should motivate us to work hard to reach more people. We can be sowers in the field that God has given us. At work, school, church, or our neighborhood, we are to proclaim Jesus.
To proclaim Christ, we need to know his Word. That is why knowing God’s Word is so important. Not only reading but also studying it daily if possible. It is through God’s Word we learn how to navigate life. Many truths are found in His Word. It is our source of truth.
As we minister to people through the Word of God, there will be different kinds of people we encounter. Their heart condition will not all be the same. Some hearts will be open to the Word you proclaim. Others will not. They will all respond differently to the Word.
“Lord, help me to proclaim your love and promise of life to all. Please give me the courage to speak boldly about you in settings and situations you allow me to encounter. In Jesus’ name Amen.”
One of the many reasons I love this blog, keep proclaiming the truth.
