Parables of Jesus

Seeking them out

July 15, 2020

If Jesus came to earth today, where would he go?

Tax collectors and other notorious sinners often came to listen to Jesus teach. This made the Pharisees and teachers of religious law complain that he was associating with such sinful people—even eating with them! So Jesus told them this story: “If a man has a hundred sheep and one of them gets lost, what will he do? Won’t he leave the ninety-nine others in the wilderness and go to search for the one that is lost until he finds it? And when he has found it, he will joyfully carry it home on his shoulders. When he arrives, he will call together his friends and neighbors, saying, ‘Rejoice with me because I have found my lost sheep.’ In the same way, there is more joy in heaven over one lost sinner who repents and returns to God than over ninety-nine others who are righteous and haven’t strayed away!”(Luke 15:1-7; NLT)

Jesus would reach those who need him the most.

He searches for the one who is lost and hurting.

He wants to comfort them with his love.

Jesus wants us to do the same. He wants us to search for those who need him the most. In our world today, that is everyone. However, Jesus went to those no one wanted to reach.

The so-called “sinners” in Jesus’ day were not welcomed in the religious circles. Jesus died for all. Are you willing to reach those who are different from you?

Will you tell them of the saving grace and love of God? How God’s love and grace can change their life forever?

In our hearts and lives, we must be willing to search for those who need Jesus. Jesus called his disciples to “go into all the world” (Matthew 28:18-19). When we “go” we have to know where we are going and who we are reaching. We have to be actively looking for people to reach for Christ.

Do you seek out people to tell them about Jesus?

I have to say I do not always. I have the heart, but a lot of times, fear and anxiety can get in the way of me reaching out. I am sure all of us struggle in some way when it comes to sharing Christ.

However, it is what we are called to do, right?

Lord, remove the fear and anxiety that tends to hinder me from sharing Christ with others. Help me to seek people to share your love boldly. Jesus’ name, Amen.”
