New Heaven and New Earth
Take a minute and imagine a time when there will be no more sorrow and tears. As believers, we won’t experience pain, and sin will be no more.
“I heard a loud shout from the throne, saying, “Look, God’s home is now among his people! He will live with them, and they will be his people. God himself will be with them. He will wipe every tear from their eyes, and there will be no more death or sorrow or crying or pain. All these things are gone forever.” Revelation 21:3-4 NLT
We know that Jesus will come back and judgment day will come, but after, God will renew His creation and make a new heaven and earth.
“The new heaven and new earth is the final and eternal state of the universe resulting from the renewal of the current, fallen creation, for the glory of God.” (Allision, 2018)
Since the fall, our world and we have been messed up. Sin entered the world, and creation was cursed.
“And to the man he said, “Since you listened to your wife and ate from the tree whose fruit I commanded you not to eat, the ground is cursed because of you. All your life you will struggle to scratch a living from it. It will grow thorns and thistles for you, though you will eat of its grains. By the sweat of your brow will you have food to eat until you return to the ground from which you were made. For you were made from dust, and to dust you will return.” Genesis 3:17-19 NLT
Even though everything is not how it’s supposed to be, God had a plan in motion to restore all He had made.
Christ came dead, rose, and ascended so that we might be redeemed, breaking the curse of sin and giving humanity a chance for eternal life with God.
In the end, God will create a new heaven and earth. One that will last forever.
“Then I saw a new heaven and a new earth, for the old heaven and the old earth had disappeared. And the sea was also gone. And I saw the holy city, the new Jerusalem, coming down from God out of heaven like a bride beautifully dressed for her husband.”
Revelation 21:1-2 NLT
“Look! I am creating new heavens and a new earth, and no one will even think about the old ones anymore.”
Isaiah 65:17 NLT
As we look forward to eternity with God, we should remember to glorify God in our present state. We should strive to live holy and godly lives for Christ. Loving Him with all our hearts and loving others because the best is yet to come!
