The Church
“Christ is also the head of the church, which is his body……” Colossians 1:18 NLT
Believers in Christ. This is the church.
We know that church is where we go on Sundays, Wednesdays, or Saturdays to worship with fellow believers at a place, but the church is the people.
“Just as our bodies have many parts and each part has a special function, so it is with Christ’s body. We are many parts of one body, and we all belong to each other.” Romans 12:4-5 NLT
In this COVID pandemic, when access to gathering in church stopped at one point, we were still the church. It became real because we had to remember that the church is not the building but the people.
As members of this body, we are to make a collective impact on the world.
Hear the prayer that Jesus prayed for us,
“I am praying not only for these disciples but also for all who will ever believe in me through their message. I pray that they will all be one, just as you and I are one—as you are in me, Father, and I am in you. And may they be in us so that the world will believe you sent me.
“I have given them the glory you gave me, so they may be one as we are one. I am in them, and you are in me. May they experience such perfect unity that the world will know that you sent me and that you love them as much as you love me.” John 17:20-23 NLT
Our walk with the Lord is essential, but our walk as a collective body is also important.
Why? Because we can do more together than we can by ourselves.
We are not only to show the world Christ, but we are to encourage each other.
“Let us hold tightly without wavering to the hope we affirm, for God can be trusted to keep his promise. Let us think of ways to motivate one another to acts of love and good works. And let us not neglect our meeting together, as some people do, but encourage one another, especially now that the day of his return is drawing near.” Hebrews 10:23-25 NLT
I am so grateful for my brothers and sisters in Christ. While Christ is all I need, it is nice to have people in my life to encourage me in my walk with Christ. A lot of them I have met through church. Let’s be an encouragement to each other.
Who has encouraged you lately? Who have you been an encouragement to recently?
“I was glad when they said to me, “Let us go to the house of the Lord.” Psalm 122:1 NLT
