Parables of Jesus

The expectation

July 1, 2020

Then Jesus told this story: “A man planted a fig tree in his garden and came, again and again, to see if there was any fruit on it, but he was always disappointed. Finally, he said to his gardener, ‘I’ve waited three years, and there hasn’t been a single fig! Cut it down. It’s just taking up space in the garden.’ “The gardener answered, ‘Sir, give it one more chance. Leave it another year, and I’ll give it special attention and plenty of fertilizer. If we get figs next year, fine. If not, then you can cut it down.” (Luke 13:6-9 NLT)

Just like the man expecting to find figs on the tree, Jesus expects us as Christians to bear fruit for Him.

We have a responsibility as disciples to tell and teach to the love of Christ to others. We are to point others to the sacrifice of Jesus on the cross. Also, we are to teach others to grow in their faith. God wants us to bring glory to His Name.

When you produce much fruit, you are my true disciples. This brings great glory to my Father.” (John 15:8: NLT)

It is our purpose in life to bear fruit.

For we are God’s masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so we can do the good things he planned for us long ago.” (Ephesians 2:10: NLT)

I know a lot of times we struggle with finding purpose in our life. So I hope this sticks. Our mission as believers is to point others to Christ and help them grow.

Fulfilling this purpose comes in different forms for many people, but that is what we should be striving to do on a daily bases.

We are to proclaim Christ in our everyday lives and bear fruit. Not just any fruit but good fruit.

A tree is identified by its fruit. If a tree is good, its fruit will be good. If a tree is bad, its fruit will be bad.” (Matthew 12:33 NLT)

Lord Jesus, help me to bear good fruit for you. Please help me to proclaim your truth to others boldly. Let me bring glory to your Name. In Jesus’ Name Amen.”
