Names of God

The Lord is My Shepherd

Jehovah Rohi

As believers, we know that we live in a fallen world. Yet God has shown us that He will be with us through the hard times and give us good things.

In Psalm 23, David saw God as a shepherd. One who provides, leads, comforts, and provides security.

David knew about sheep. They were helpless. A shepherd had to find pasture, water, shelter, and medication for their sheep. They had to protect the sheep from wandering off. David knew that his dependence was to be on the Lord. Because without God, he was helpless as a sheep.

Just like a sheep needs a shepherd to care for them, we need God to care for us. Whether we acknowledge God or not, He still provides grace for us as we live our daily lives.

If you are a believer, we can relate. There have been times in our lives when God has given us something that we needed. How about the time the Holy Spirit guided you through your day? What about the time you were scared or fearful, and you opened up Scripture to read that God is near and will never leave.

As we live each day, remember that God is like a shepherd to us. He knows what we need Him. Are you willing to acknowledge that you need Him to live?

In recent years, I have learned to pray about everything. I mean EVERYTHING! From running all of the miles on my training schedule to my car starting every time, I get in it. I am not saying this to sound super-spiritual because I am not. I tell you to say that I need God’s help in my life. I have realized that I can do nothing without Him. NOTHING. So to remind me of this, I ask the Lord to help me throughout my day. I need Him. Just like a sheep that needs a shepherd, I need the Lord for everything.

It is through His grace and mercy that you and I are here. So as you live out your day, keep in contact with your shepherd. He is willing to lead; you have to be willing to follow.
