God is the creator and supreme power over everything. Therefore, he has the authority to do what He wills.
“God does as he pleases, only as he pleases, always as he pleases. None can thwart him. None can hinder him.” (Pink, 1975)
What do you think about the sovereignty of God?
“The concept of sovereignty involves the entire plan of God in all of its intricate details of design and outworking. Although He often allows things to take their natural course according to laws which He designed it is the sovereign God who is working all things according to His wise plan” (Ryrie, 1972)
God controls and knows everything. Simply because he is God. “Divine sovereignty means that God is God in fact, as well as in name, that he is on the Throne of the universe directing all things, working all things “after the counsel of his own will” (Eph 1:11)” (Pink, 1975)
As believers, we know who is in control, but we like to have control too. Ultimately we don’t have control, whether it is with our families, possessions, or the other intricate parts of our lives we want to control. Yet, we do bear responsibility for our choices.
The Sovereignty of God and human responsibility (free will) are truths that coexist. The Bible speaks to them.
Jesus talks about both. “For no one can come to me unless the Father who sent me draws them to me,” John 6:44 NLT “Then Jesus said, “Come to me, all of you who are weary and carry heavy burdens, and I will” give you rest.” Matt 11:28 NLT
Knowing that God is in control, He allows us to have a choice should give us comfort. We serve a good God who has good for us. So whatever happens while we live on this earth, God knows and controls.
Let us echo Job, “I know that you can do anything, and no one can stop you.” Job 42:2 NLT
