Core Biblical Truths

What do you believe about God the Son?

August 10, 2022

In our world today, many beliefs are shifting and moving. People today have a variety of beliefs. Some of them are within the confines of a religious denomination; some are not.

As followers of Christ, there is one belief that we hold near is that Jesus Christ is God. It is one of the foundational beliefs of a faithful follower of Christ. We believe what the Scriptures says about Him.

“In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.” John 1:1ESV

“Long ago, at many times and in many ways, God spoke to our fathers by the prophets, but in these last days, he has spoken to us by his Son, whom he appointed the heir of all things, through whom also he created the world. He is the radiance of the glory of God and the exact imprint of his nature, and he upholds the universe by the word of his power. After making purification for sins, he sat down at the right hand of the Majesty on high,”
Hebrews 1:1-4 ESV

Even Christ tells us who He is, “My Father, who has given them to me, is greater than all, and no one is able to snatch them out of the Father’s hand. I and the Father are one.” John 10:30 ESV

Many people hold the belief that Jesus Christ is not God. This is what sets us apart as believers. One of the ways to know if someone is a true believer in what they believe about Christ. (Notice I said one of the core beliefs; other core beliefs are not mentioned here.)

This is a fundamental belief for us. “What is at stake in this doctrine? Our salvation! The God-man , sent by the Father to accomplish salvation, is the unique mediator between God and his fallen image-bearers. Only he divine Son could pay the infinite penalty for sin. Only he as the fully human Son incarnate could be the perfect substitute for sinful human beings.” (Allison, 2018)

Christ is . . . . . Creator (Hebrews 1:2 & Colossians 1:15-16), Immanuel (Isaiah 7:14, Matt 1:22-23), Alpha and Omega (Revelation 22:12-13), King (Revelation 19:16), Lamb of God (John 1:29), Great High Priest (Hebrews 4:14, 16) and most importantly our Savior.

At Christmas, we celebrate His birth, Easter we rejoice in His resurrection, remember His ascension, and anticipate His return.

As a believer, Christ is an important part of our lives. Through Him, we can have a relationship with Him, God the Father, and have the Holy Spirit dwell within us. Remember, because of who He is and what He has done for us. We can have comfort in all circumstances in our life. We are never alone.
