Life can be a fleeting experience when we consider how quickly time passes. As believers, life is essential—I mean not just the physical life, but the purpose of our life.
As children, we tend to exist in our own world, interacting with the people in it. As teenagers and young adults, we often contemplate what our purpose in life should be. Sometimes, we have these questions echoing in our brains even though we believe we have chosen a path, yet we wonder if it’s the right one.
As followers of Christ, we are called to an unselfish life. It’s not about our happiness. Our joy is found only in Christ.
So what should our life reflect? It should reflect Christ.
When Jesus came to earth as a human, He demonstrated to us what it might mean to be a humble servant. The Creator of the universe became like one of us!
Paul, in his letter to the Philippians, writes about how we can live a life of humility and service.
“Don’t be selfish; don’t try to impress others. Be humble, thinking of others as better than yourselves. Don’t look out only for your own interests, but take an interest in others, too.”
Philippians 2:3-4 NLT
It’s hard sometimes to put others ahead of ourselves, particularly when people mistreat us. We have to remember we are called to give of ourselves.
Jesus died for a world that rejected Him. He gave the ultimate sacrifice, His life, that we might have eternal life.
As believers, our actions and attitudes are what the people around us experience. When we purpose to reflect Christ in our actions, the people around us notice. We don’t do it to get noticed for our own popularity but to point people to a Savior.
Love God. Be humble. Love others. Serve others.
“You are the light of the world” Matthew 5:14 NLT.
